Life is a Journey: Every Step Matters

Tuesday: A Day

PARKING BIKES AND SCOOTERS: Outdoor parking is available for student bikes and scooters. Please note that this area is not covered, so bikes and scooters will be exposed to rain and other weather conditions.

PARKING LOT: For everyone’s safety, students and families must not walk through the parking lots during arrival or dismissal. Please use designated sidewalks and walking paths when coming to or leaving school.

LENGTH OF SCHOOL DAY: Please note - For a school day to be counted as a full day, students must be present for at least 4 hours, not including lunch/recess. Students in school for less than 4 hours will be marked absent for the day.

NURSE’S NOOK (FROM NURSE GINA): Notes from physicians and parents - All health-related notes should be brought directly to the school nurse. If your child sees a physician for an illness or injury, please obtain a note indicating when they may return to school and any restrictions for PE and recess. A parent may request exclusion from PE and recess for one day only; additional days require a physician’s note. Students excused from PE will also be excluded from recess.

If Your Child Is Injured at School - The school nurse will assess and care for your child. Parents/caregivers may be contacted for minor injuries. For serious injuries, we will call 911 and then contact the parent/caregiver. Please keep your emergency contact information up to date.

COUNSELORS’ CORNER (FROM MRS. HUSTON & MRS. MASON): Welcome back to school! Students (and parents?) often return with mixed emotions, so it's a good time to practice emotional granularity. Did you know most people only use "sad," "mad," and "happy" to describe their feelings? Emotional granularity is your brain's ability to precisely identify and label subtle differences between emotional states, rather than lumping feelings into broad, vague categories. Research shows that being specific about our feelings helps us stay calm and leads to better outcomes and solutions. In grades K-2, students are still learning the basics, so you can help them name feelings to help them identify their own. For example, "I notice that your hands are in fists, are you feeling angry?" or "It looks like you may be feeling sad."  For grades 3-6, try using the Mood Meter to help find a more precise name for your feelings about coming back to school - or any time!  Questions?  Feel free to reach out via email to HustonH@oradellschool.org or MasonR@oradellschool.org.
