KIDS HEART CHALLENGE: The Kids Heart Challenge launched this week during Physical Education classes! Students are learning about heart health, teamwork, and ways to keep their bodies strong and active. Information and materials were sent home by Mr. Kelly and Ms. Maiella, so please check backpacks for details on how families can participate in and support this important initiative.
COUNSELORS’ CORNER: This month, our students are learning to practice self-compassion in the face of mistakes and failures with a program called "It's Not Just You!" Students are asked to complete the sentence, "Raise your hand if you've ever..." with a brief description of an experience that left them feeling uncertain, embarrassed, or ashamed. Then, each day, a brave student shares that experience on the morning announcements. When everyone looks around and sees all the other hands raised, they realize - It's Not Just You! Studies show this actually reduces the self-judgment, isolation, and shame people feel by increasing their sense of connection with others. Intrigued? PEER LEADERSHIP: OPS’s Peer Leadership Program is growing. This month we will pair trained Grade 5 and 6 students with younger classmates in Kindergarten during recess, Grade 1 during Social Studies/Science, and Grade 2 during specials to promote cooperative play, kindness, and positive social skills. Peer Leaders are supervised by staff and help create a welcoming, supportive school environment for all students.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION: Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year is open for students who turn five years old by October 1, 2026. Registration information can be found on the front page of the OPS Website: https://www.oradellschool.org/.
