OPS Community Flash
Week of May 18, 2025
Monday: D Day
The Way of the Panther
OPS ART SHOW TUESDAY!: Join us for the OPS Art Show Open House on Tuesday from 7:00–8:30 PM! Come celebrate our students’ creativity and see over 1,000 pieces of artwork they’ve created throughout the year. Enter through the basketball court doors on Center Street—we can’t wait to see you there!
BOE MEETING WEDNESDAY: Please join us at 7:30 PM on Wednesday for a special Board of Education meeting as we celebrate the OPS staff's years of service, our retirees, and our Teacher of the Year. We look forward to honoring these incredible members of our school community!
SUMMER WEATHER DRESS GUIDELINES: As the weather gets warmer, please help your child make clothing choices that support a safe and respectful school environment.
Key reminders:
Hats may not be worn inside the building (except for religious or medical reasons or on designated spirit days).
Sunglasses are only allowed for medical purposes.
Shoes must have a back strap—flip-flops, slides, slippers, and sneakers with wheels are not allowed for safety reasons. Students wearing them will sit out of recess.
Midriffs and undergarments should not be visible at any time.
Skirts, dresses, shorts, and skorts must fully cover undergarments and extend at least two inches below the buttocks.
If your child arrives in clothing that doesn’t meet these guidelines, families will be contacted to bring in a change of clothes. The full dress code can be found in the Family Student Handbook on the OPS website.
CLASS PLACEMENT: OPS takes great care in placing students each year, considering academic, social, and emotional needs. Families are invited to share input to support this process, such as preferred learning partners or separation requests. Specific teacher requests are not accepted. For more information and to access the form, please go HERE. The form closes on May 23rd, and we will not accept responses or feedback after that date. Please note: If you requested a separation from another child in the past, it is not automatically carried over—you must submit it again this year.
2025-26 SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS: The 2025-26 Class Lists can be found HERE. Or avoid the back-to-school shopping rush and order your 2025–26 School Supply Kit through the PTA. Kits are delivered directly to your child’s classroom before the first day of school— order by June 30 using this link.
CHROMEBOOK SAFETY CONCERN: A dangerous TikTok trend is encouraging students to insert metal objects like paper clips or pushpins into Chromebook ports, which can cause severe damage and pose safety risks such as electric shock or fire.
NJSLA: The New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) continues this week for students in Grade 5. Please make sure your child brings wired headphones daily.
