    Winter Fun

    Kindergarten and First Grade:

We are learning about winter scenes.

We learned how to draw winter people having fun in the snow. We dressed them in warm clothes so they would not get cold.

We learned how to cut snowflakes out of paper. We also learned how to make snowflakes using lines to make a plus sign and then it became a snowflake when we put two more lines through the center of the plus sign.

We also learned how to make winter trees. We made an evergreen tree by overlapping triangles. Another way to make an evergreen tree is to draw two zigzag lines that meet at the top of the tree.

    Holidays:

We celebrated "Lunar New Year" and talked about the parade in China Town where they have a large dragon (people in a costume) that is so long that it goes from one block to another. Then we made a dragon out of paper and decorated it.

We learned how to make hearts for Valentines Day. We folded a paper in half and drew a candy cane on the fold. When we cut it out it became a heart.

We learned how to use heart shapes instead of rectangles, squares and ovals to draw things like animals, houses, people, trees, grass and flowers.

We learned that Henri Matisse cut out shapes from paper and glued them to make pictures. We looked at a picture where he made flowers by putting shapes together that looked similar to hearts.
